The lighthouse

The symbol of Texel: the lighthouse. This tower, which is more than 150 years old, is located on the northernmost tip of Texel. It has been a museum for several years and is open to visitors almost daily. It is a nice trip up: during the climb you learn a lot about the lighthouse during the war and you can still see the bullet holes. Once at the top you have an amazing view over the Wadden.

A Day Vlieland with De Vriendschap

From the beach at pole 33 you can take a day trip to Vlieland. Waddenveer De Vriendschap picks you up ‘ in the morning, and after a wonderful day at Vlieland you will be picked up again at the end of the day. Who knows, you might spot seals during the trip!

Gliding with Texel holidays!

Near De Cocksdorp (on the way there) you will pass the Texel airport. With Texel holidays we offer a gliding flight for only 75 euros! What are you waiting for and view the beautiful island from the air. Only for those interested in the motor hover club Texel.

Golf course De Texelse

Near De Cocksdorp you will find one of the few dune golf courses in the whole of the Netherlands. The golf course has 18 holes and a 9-hole par-3 course. Nice for the advanced, but also for the beginners. During this active outing you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Beaches

The beach is very wide at the lighthouse in De Cocksdorp! Sometimes it is a kilometer walk to the sea. At pole 28 and pole 33 there is a nice beach tent and there are also plenty of places at the lighthouse to eat and drink something. Note: swimming is prohibited from pole 31 to 33 due to strong currents.

Tips for real Texel lovers

Stay in De Koog

Spending the night in De Koog Texel and the surrounding area is no problem. In and around the village, the apartment complexes, luxury holiday bungalows, campsites and cozy holiday homes join forces. However, it is wise to reserve in advance. This way you can be sure that you will find yourself in an accommodation that meets your requirements of comfort and luxury. For example our apartments Juliana or Zeedistel. Beautiful apartments on the dune on the edge of De Koog. Would you rather have a luxury family villa, equipped with every comfort, with the sea and nightlife within walking distance? The bungalows on the Orchismient are exactly what you are looking for.

Holiday for humans and animals

A Texel holiday De Koog means fun for people and animals. Not only is there a lot to do on the beach, in the woods and the seaside resort of De Koog, our accommodations are also designed to ensure that every individual gets their money's worth. For example, there are spacious lawns around the family villas that are spacious enough to play a ball game with the children or a frolic with the dog. At some of our holiday bungalows there is even a playground in the garden and you have access to several terraces.

Parking and public transport

Paid parking is available everywhere in De Koog and at the beach strokes. Your car is of course free at your accommodation. If you want to use public transport, you have two options. Connexxion line 28 runs on the ferry port route ’ t Horntje, Den Burg to the center of De Koog. The second transport service is Texelhopper. With more than 130 boarding places, the small buses arrive in all villages and drive past all the sights of Texel. If you specify this at least an hour in advance, you can also reserve the service on time and place.

Nature near De Koog

Although De Koog is a holiday village, where you will find a lot of entertainment, you are not deprived of nature. On the contrary, the Juliana apartment complex is located in the middle of the dunes and only 150 m from the village center. Although the bungalows on the Orchismient are located in a bungalow district, it is completely embedded in the National Park De Duinen van Texel. You can walk straight into the forest from your bungalow. To get a good idea of the work of nature, there is a 14.5 km walking route Duinen van Texel around De Koog, which can be downloaded on routeyou.

Walking and cycling

De Koog is a great base for beautiful bike rides and walks. The village is almost centrally located on the island and is surrounded by the forests of the De Duinen van Texel National Park. In the protected nature reserve there is a whole network of short and longer walking routes, cycle paths and mountain bike trails. In the Seeting hiking area, the section between De Koog and Ecomare, the hiking trails are also suitable for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. To introduce the visitor to the hidden spots of Texel, Staatsbosbeheer regularly organizes interesting excursions. Not only for valid people, but also for people with disabilities. Ask at the reception of Ecomare.

Sightseeing

Ecomare, lighthouse Eierland, the Oudheidkamer, ’ t Walvisvaarderhuisje and Fort Oudeschild are the most famous sights of our largest Wadden Island. Also worth a visit: the Texel Zoo, with its spectacular raptor show and special butterfly garden, Cape Skil, the beachcombing museum Flora and the War and Aviation Museum at Texel airport. Depending on the season you visit the island, the bird watching places are also in the month of May, the Regatta of Texel, in the month of June, mushroom walks with the ranger in October and cuddling lambs in the winter / spring is a good reason to spend the night in Texel De Koog.
