Introducing.. Robin
Dear Texel Holiday Friends,
I've been asked to introduce myself on the website and in the newsletter, so here goes!
Back in a beach house on the Texel shore during a heavy storm in 1992, my parents had a great time. Haha. I believe this played a big role in my love for Texel. Growing up on the beach, building huts in the woods, and going on treasure hunts through the dunes was my childhood. But like almost all Texel youth, you eventually have to leave the island to study.
Back to basics, before I forget to introduce myself...
"Van wie ben je d'r ien?" (“Who are your folks?”) as they say here on Texel.
My name is Robin Waerts, born on 30-10-1992, and I've been living on Texel again for a few years now with my girlfriend. Originally, I’m a “Kooger” but now I’m a resident of Den Burg. I grew up in an entrepreneurial family; my father owns a gym in Den Burg and my mother is a police officer. I've always been taught to work hard and seize every opportunity.
Now, about my hobbies: photography started as a hobby but got a bit out of hand. It allows me to earn some extra income alongside my main job. This hobby brings me to the coolest people and the most beautiful places. I also have a great passion for cooking and baking, so if you drop by and smell something delicious, feel free to ask about it. Lastly, I enjoy kitesurfing, where I can go all out on the water and clear my mind. Hopefully, I'll have and take more time for this now.
After more than 10 years in the hospitality industry, I felt it was time for a change. I was working as a photographer for TexelVakanties and was complaining a bit... Well, that got noticed. “Hey Robin, why don’t you come work for us? We’re looking for someone to strengthen our team.” That really made me think (working until 18:00 seemed like a great idea!). Dealing with different guests, helping solve problems, and taking new photos for the website and social media seemed to fit me well. So, the choice was made rather quickly!
Now, as I sit here typing, the first regular guests already know my name and greet me every morning. It sometimes feels like a second home, with a great team and lovely guests. You can always drop by for a chat (if it’s not too busy, of course).
So if you get a call or email from a Robin, that's me!
With kind island regards,
Robin Waerts
